Omega 3 - What's all the Fuss About?

The benefits of diets high in Essential Fatty Acids and Essential Oils have long been known. Some will remember fondly, being plied with Castor Oil by well-meaning relatives, whilst others may recall that Jeeves, Bertie Woosters' Gentleman's Gentleman, had his phenomenal cognitive powers attributed to his vast intake of fish.

It is the Omega 3 oil contained within these foods, that provide the health benefits. Sadly, the typical 21st century diet of the Western world is lacking in many things, including Omega 3 oil. Even the '2 portions of oily fish a week' falls short of what is now recommended.

Many studies have been conducted or are currently underway, into the benefits of Omega 3 oil dietary supplements, and the results are proving to be remarkable. Parents could not fail to be taken aback by the BBC programme 'The Human Mind', where a group of junior school children were given regular Omega 3 oil supplements.

Robert Winston described how disruptive behaviour stopped, attentiveness increased and results rose. One of the children, Elliot Best, even went on to movingly describe his new found love of books and libraries.

More recently Professor Robert Winston, in the BBC programme 'Child Of Our Time', showed how Omega 3 oils cannot only calm unruly children, but also help develop early social skills.

On "Tonight with Trevor McDonald" (July 2007) leading nutritionist Patrick Holford worked with Chineham Park Primary School Basingstoke, to improve results and pupil behaviour. Using Equazen Eye Q Omega 3 supplements, modified diets and specially devised SAQ (Speed Agility Quickness) exercises, significant improvements in SAT scores, behaviour, attention and hyperactivity were made. "I am really delighted with these results." Said Gwen Clifford, the school head. "The project has made a big difference."

The reported benefits of Omega 3 are as varied as the research into the subject. Oil The Cogs aims to bring together the most relevant information on the subject, along with links to related works and research. We have also provided links for you to purchase Omega 3 oil supplements if you decide, as we did, that the benefits of these natural oils are too great to ignore.
